Design and Manufacture
Bloodhound launched the Design and Manufacture work package at the Autosport International 2012 show and invited the cream of UK innovation, technology and manufacturing companies to showcase their expertise by manufacturing approximately 3,000 bespoke components required over the next 12 months to complete the world's ultimate racing car.
Amongst these components is the rolling chassis which the team are determined to complete by Christmas with the overall build complete by Q3 2013, in time for the high speed test on the Hakskeen Pan desert, South Africa. The world’s fastest man, Andy Green, and product sponsorship lead Conor La Grue,
unveiled the catalogue at the Autosport Show in January 2012, in partnership with the Motorsport Industry Association where the component list will be updated regularly.
Here businesses can find the parts indexed by specialism, e.g. CAD design, additive manufacture, CNC machining, composites, and so on. Iconic
components include the 1.6m high tail fin, 90cm wheels for UK runway testing up to 200mph and the drivers pedal box which will control the throttle for the jet engine and wheel disc brakes. Businesses are invited to select and quote for the work packages they are interested in undertaking. If accepted, design drawings, and where applicable the tooling and materials, will then be provided to them.
The Bloodhound Project aims to not only inspire the next generation of engineers, mathematicians and scientists but through encouraging manufacturing experts to join the adventure, the project further demonstrates the excellent talent that currently exists in the UK.
