14 to 19 Engineering Diplomas

Engineering and engineers play a key role in ensuring our health, wealth and security; t he next generation of engineers will need to continue that tradition but do so in a more sustainable way, with a continually changing set of competences.  Not only that, but it is generally agreed that the UK will need more engineers in the future - a natural consequence of an increasingly technology dependent society.

The Institution already does a great deal to inspire, prepare and support engineers; our academic accreditation service and CPD service are just 2 examples of this.

A key part of our new activity in this area is our support for the Diplomas in Engineering for 14 to 19 year olds, a suite of qualifications being introduced in schools and colleges in England in September 2008.  The Diploma is an academic qualification, incorporating mathematics and sciences, at levels equivalent to either GCSEs or A Levels, but intended to show the work-place relevance of the academic content.
