Practical Papers

Our intent in publishing ‘practical papers’ in the Presidents’ Choice is to provide articles of practical relevance to the working engineer, normally based on the experience of the author. Having said that, we cannot, of course, guarantee or take responsibility for the accuracy of the statements made by the author or the use made of them, and all should read our disclaimers.

It is perhaps worthwhile also defining practical papers by what they are not. They are not the reports of original reports of research, nor scholarly reviews of the literature or subject – we have a whole suite of journals, under the umbrella of The Proceedings of the IMechE for those, nor are they journalistic pieces, news items, or political opinion pieces.

There is no formal restriction on length, but we have in mind papers of the equivalent of 10 to12 pages. The section is not for books nor treatises or autobiographies.

As an online service, we do, of course, welcome supplementary items such as simulations etc. providing the space they occupy is not too large. If you are thinking of submitting large files, do contact us first to discuss it at presidentschoice@imeche.org
