A Vision for engineering in Scotland
Once a world leader in manufacturing industries, Scotland has seen its economy transform over the last 30 years, as reliance has shifted from heavy industry to a growing services sector. As seen throughout the UK, the recent global financial crisis has provided an opportunity for the next government to re-generate the manufacturing sector and rebalance the economy.
With the forthcoming Scottish Parliament general election, the Institution is publishing A Vision for Engineering in Scotland that will be sent to all elected Members of the Scottish Parliament following 5 May.
The vision outlines key engineering challenges, including:
- the protection of Scotland's population, villages and critical assets from the impacts of future climate change
- how Scotland can achieve energy security whilst meeting ambitious renewable energy targets
- introducing a consistent and low carbon transport infrastructure strategy
- inspiring the next generation of young scientists and engineers.
