Welcome

The Aerospace Division has prizes and awards available for distribution to recognise the achievements of engineers in the Division’s field of expertise. £1,000 is allocated to the following three prizes, of which one or more can be chosen up to the £1,000 budget allocation. (NB No prize should be less than £100).

• Charles Sharpe Beecher Prize (Serial 203)
• Kenneth Harris James Prize (Serial 219)
• William Sweet Smith Prize (Serial 234)

The remaining £1,500 is allocated to:

• The Whittle Reactionaries Prize (Serial 258 – £1,500)

The Division also has the Derek George Astridge Safety in Aerospace Award (Serial 268 – Medal and Shield) under its remit to award.

In addition to these prizes the following Division's Regional Centres offer prizes:

• Western Aerospace Centre Prize
• IMechE Aerospace North West Prize

The Institution is also proud to be involved with the Schools Aerospace Challenge - for which it hosts the awards ceremony every year in November - as it demonstrates to students that engineering is exciting and may encourage them to pursue a career in engineering.

Nominations are also made to the Trustee Board Awards Committee for the IMechE's Major Prizes and Awards by 31 March each year:

• Thomas Hawksley Gold Medal
• IMechE Equality and Diversity Award
• IMechE Award for Risk Reduction in Mechanical Engineering
• George Stephenson Gold Medal
• James Watt International Gold Medal (Awarded biennially - next award 2012)
