[April 2007] Part J of the Proceedings of the IMechE (the Journal of Engineering Tribology) has had its most successful year to date. In 2006 the journal received 99 papers and publishing rates had a median time of less than 1 year for receipt to publication.

Tribology Group Members may be interested to learn that they can fast track shorter papers to Part J.  The journal has begun to accept “letters” providing an opportunity for the rapid dissemination of significant findings in Tribology.  Letters are given accelerated publication, they should be brief (between 500 and 2000 words with a maximum of 4 Illustrations).

The aim the letters section is to provide a platform for authors to communicate information rapidly about new and developing areas in tribology or to present a short, high quality paper that is quickly reviewed and published.  A letter may well be followed by a more substantial paper in due course and these will be welcomed and reviewed in the normal manner.
