The Tribology Award Fund was established in 1969. A total of £10,000 was raised. The purposes of the fund were originally set to award an annual Gold Medal for some outstanding achievements in Tribology and to award three medals for technical contributions by students or others working or researching in Tribology. This has now been altered so that Gold, Silver and Bronze medals are awarded annually.
