[July 2007] The British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT) has developed a 3rd party certification programme for Level 1 and 2 Tribology personnel based on the suite of standards within ISO 18436 Condition Monitoring and diagnostics of Machines – Training and Certification of Personnel.

BINDT is seeking prospective candidates to help final development of PCN Level 3 qualification by sitting our Level 3 pilot examination for Lubricant Management.

We expect that persons already having significant experience in regard to lubricants would be likely to be automatically given access to Level 2 examinations which are a prerequisite for access onto the L3 however, any applicants must meet the prerequisites specified in CMGEN.

This is a new and highly valuable standard as it allows professionals to be able to practice in this field under the control of an internationally recognised standard. However before this can be launched we must complete the Level 3 pilot, hence the need to ask industry professionals to put themselves forward.

There would be no cost for sitting the Level 3 pilot examinations however, if certification was sought for successful candidates who also have the prerequisite experience and Level 2 certification, then a general certificate levy cost of £48 + VAT would apply.

Those who do not have a Level 2 certificate may sit a second Level 2 pilot examination that will be implemented to provide suitable candidates to progress to the Level 3 pilot examination.

Application forms to sit the examinations and our normative document (CMGEN and Appendix C) are available via BINDT.
