About the Safety and Reliability Group


The principal aims of the Safety and Reliability Group are to:

  • Organise conferences and seminars to promote best practise and allow cross fertilisation between different industries
  • Organise the presentation of the latest developments and research from industry and the universities every two years under the title of Advances in Reliability Technology Seminar (ARTS). 
  • Support the development of International standards on safety and reliability techniques. 
  • Support the publication of books on the subject. 
  • Support the movement to ensure that these subjects will be incorporated into all undergraduate courses of study. 
  • Promote the provision of material for education.

SRG Committee
 
This is made up of interested members who meet once a quarter. The work of the committee is supported by Technical Working Groups who meet independently and report back to the group committee their proposals. The organisation of events is co-ordinated by a Technical Activities Committee.

Technical Working Groups

  • Engineering for Reliability - To increase the awareness and profile of reliability engineering and risk management and its application in the design and development of products.
  • Engineering for Safety - To promote good practise in relation to the design and assurance of the Functional Safety of Mechanical Systems.
  • Standards and Procedures -  To represent the IMechE.on BSI committees DS/1 and DS1/1 and to review and comment on standards and procedures relevant to safety and reliability as issued by BSI, European and other international bodies.
  • Human Factors in Safety and Reliability - To raise the sensitivity of UK residents to human factors.
