With timetable information at your fingertips you can book a ticket through your mobile phone. Real-time information alerts you when its time to leave. Satellite navigation directs you to the nearest bus stop, your platform and the best place to stand for your seat reservation. All this is done automatically, taking account of delays, to give you the optimum door-to-door journey experience.

REF Making Electrification Happen

Electric trains are perceived by the public to be clean, fast and efficient. They are more reliable and do not pollute the area in which they are used. So why is Britain not like France, Holland and Switzerland in having the bulk of its railways electrified? The challenges of a network wide electrification programme that allows transport to take advantage of greener energy will be dealt with at this event. These include: •Has the Industry got the skills it needs? •Can we get the costs down? •Can we avoid costly disruption to services? •Are the network benefits real or imagined? •What plants and equipment are needed? •How do we deliver a rolling programme?

Railway Division AGM & Young Members Papers Final

The regional centres of the Railway Division have long held annual events to encourage young engineers to refine their presentation skills; the national final offers the opportunity for the best young members from around the country to compete for a prize fund of £500.
