Introduction I am delighted to introduce this our, first Division Newsletter for many years. We now have a keen Editor, Eunice Cinnamon, who with the active support of your Board will endeavour to make this a 3 times a year, brief but useful reference document as to what we are doing to further the needs of Process Division members. The next meeting of the Board will present the Division's Prizes at the AGM at 1300 on June 21st. This is an OPEN meeting and we would be delighted to have any member present.

Lessons From the Texas City Explosion For those of us interested in any Process Industry there was a highly successful lecture presented by Michael Broadribb from BP on the lessons learnt from the explosion in Texas City. There were some valuable lessons that we could all take away and use in our own workplace to avoid such disasters happening again. Please note there are some similar seminars coming up from the Process Industries division on the topic of Risk minimisation.
Plans for 2007/2008 The PIB aims to focus on the needs of its members, so your ideas would be welcome. Please get in touch with your local committee members if you want to get more involved with any Board or Committee work. Your involvement will be most welcome.
Points of View We also want your views on what you want from the IMechE, in particular from the Process Industries Division. What are your thoughts on membership, what do you think of the services the IMechE provide, what do you think of the website? Whatever your thoughts please let us know. We’d love to hear them. Memories of 2006 On Wednesday 29th November, the IMechE archives received a bust of Sir John Brown, donated by CB&I UK Limited. Sir John Brown founded the famous engineering firm, John Brown & Company, in 1837. Initially involved with iron and steel manufacture, in 1899 the company purchased the Clydebank Engineering and Shipbuilding Company, and became famous for building ships such as the RMS Lusitania. The bust of Sir John Brown is now standing by the entrance to the library.
Brian Cook was a senior engineering executive for Shell and served the Institution in various capacities since the early '80s. He was on Council and chaired the Division, maintaining his contact as a Past Chair. His advice was always pertinent and valued. When he retired in May 2006, 3 past Presidents recognised his contribution by attending his presentation of leather bound copy of the Institution's proceedings.
