About the James Clayton Award

The prize is available to enable members to pursue advanced postgraduate studies or programmes of research.

What is the award worth?

Up to £1,000.

The award is renewable annually for up to a maximum of three years, subject to satisfactory progress being made.

Am I eligible?

  • Applicants must hold an accredited degree or have satisfied the academic requirements for Institution membership by other means and have had not less than 2 years acceptable professional training in mechanical engineering.
  • Applications must be supported by three referees:
    • One who can vouch for the programme, confirming acceptance and brief technical outline of course or research.
    • One who can vouch for the applicant's character and suitability for this award.
    • One who can state how this award will benefit the applicant's engineering development.
