The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) invests in the future of developing engineers. IMechE is offering a number of Post-graduate Research Scholarships in support of a programme of work in Mechanical Engineering leading to the award of a doctorate e.g. PhD, DEng or DPhil.
Purpose:
For exceptional graduate students from an IMechE accredited Mechanical Engineering degree programme who wish to pursue research in Mechanical Engineering.
Value:
£6,500 p.a. (full-time), Pro rata basis (part-time).
Duration:
The normal tenure will be three years full-time study. If other study periods are approved the total award will be sub-divided appropriately.
Closing Date: 1st August each year.
Interviews: Mandatory for all short-listed candidates.
Eligibility:
The scholarships are open to students currently resident in the United Kingdom, who will commence their degree in the next academic session.
Applicants must have identified a research programme at a university or have industrial links to facilitate this.
Applicants should be expecting/or have already gained a first class or 2:1 second class honours (upper division) degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Specific conditions:
Applications must be supported by the Head of the student's current academic establishment or by a corporate member of the Institution.
A candidate selected for a scholarship is required to become an Associate Member of the Institution.
The proposed research programme must be clearly stated in the application.
The applicant must clearly demonstrate how the remaining balance of financial support is to be provided.
Application Procedure:
Applications must be submitted by 1st August each year on he form titled "Educational Awards Committee - Application for an IMechE Postgraduate Research Scholarship".
