FUNDING FOR FORMULA STUDENT TEAMS TO PARTICIPATE IN FORMULA SAE EVENTS
For the third year running, IMechE is offering up to £20,500 worth of grants to a limited number of teams that participate in Formula Student to assist with the participation costs of competing in Formula SAE-East, Formula SAE-West, Formula SAE-A, and new teams to Formula Student.
A £14,500 annual fund is available for the top UK and European teams, and for UK teams to compete in the USA and Australia competitions. A £6,000 annual fund will be split between any team (including UK) entering the UK Formula Student competition for the first time.
Formula SAE East or SAE West or SAE-A
• £4,000 to the top UK team at Formula Student 2007 (automatic eligibility) • £2,500 to the top European team at Formula Student 2007 (automatic eligibility) • 2 x £2,000 prizes which any UK team can apply for (subject to application and the use of assessment criteria if more than two teams apply) • 2 x £2,000 prizes which any UK or European team can apply for (subject to application and use of assessment criteria if more than two teams apply) TOTAL = £14,500
Formula Student
• 3 x £2,000 to any worldwide team (including UK) entering the UK Formula Student competition for the first time (subject to application and use of assessment criteria if more than three teams apply) TOTAL = £6,000
If more than the maximum number of teams applies for a grant for any competition, the maximum number of teams will be chosen by the IMechE’s Trustee Board Awards Committee using the Judging Criteria as mentioned below.
If either the top UK or European team decide not to participate in one of the FSAE competitions, their allocation will be open for application from any UK teams.
If fewer teams apply for a grant for each competition than are available, the remaining fund may be allocated to participating teams, at the discretion of the Trustee Board Awards Committee.
Please note that teams wishing to compete in Formula SAE-East, Formula SAE-West or Formula SAE-A must have already competed in the UK Formula Student event in order to be eligible to apply.
All team members must be IMechE members in order to benefit from the funding and all membership numbers are required on the application form. Please note that Affiliate IMechE membership is free for students and an online application form can be submitted at http://www.imeche.org/membership/become/affiliate/ All teams in receipt of a grant under this scheme will be expected to display the IMechE logo in a prominent position on their cars and supporting display material at the event for which the grant has been made (FSAE or FSAE-A).
The deadline for submissions for the grants is Friday 1 February 2008. All teams applying for funding must provide a budget outlining costs for the competition to ensure that the grant is needed.
So if you have registered or are intending to register for any of next year’s Formula SAE events, Formula SAE-A, or are new to Formula Student, please send your application to Fiona Edgeler by email (f_edgeler@imeche.org). If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact Fiona by email or on +44 020 7973 1251.
