IMechE annually supports the educational and development needs of today's students, graduates and members to the sum of £600,000. Prizes and Awards range from:

Undergraduate Development Awards which includes the Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme , sponsored by Rolls-Royce plc and AMEC Nuclear to encourage developing engineers to study for an IMechE accredited degree.

Also the Whitworth Scholarship Awards Scheme , which has scholarships for engineering apprentices to study for an MEng or MSc degree  in any engineering discipline.

Also on offer are awards to assist IMechE affiliate members once they have commenced their IMechE accredited degree, which include the Student Hardship Awards and Overseas Study Awards.

Postgraduate Development Awards to assist members with their postgraduate studies. 

Also available for members and non members is the Whitworth Senior Scholarship , available to graduates who were engineering apprentices before their undergraduate studies, available for postgraduate research leading to a PhD or Eng in any engineering discipline.

The Prizes and Awards are funded from the IMechE Trust Funds which comprise the legacies to the Institution under the wills of late members and sums of money allocated or donated to the Institution for specific purposes under Deeds of Trust.

The IMechE supports the "Science, Engineering and Technology Student of the Year Awards" (SET) which is open to science, engineering and technology undergraduates.
