How can the Information and Library Service help you?

IMechE members can take advantage of wide-ranging services and advice provided by the Information and Library Service. Members who are unable to visit the Library have access to remote services, such as our free enquiry service, postal loans and the Virtual Library. The Library collection contains over 175,000 books, journals, conferences, seminars and magazines on a range of engineering subjects. Our collection can be browsed in person or by using our online catalogue. In addition to books we hold over 200 engineering journals and magazines and a small collection of standards.

Enquiry Service

The enquiry service is free to members and can assist with searches for technical data, literature reviews, market information, supplier and company contacts, and sources of salary information. We provide a free fact-finding and literature searching service, carrying out research using engineering online databases, as well as our extensive stock of handbooks. We can search for articles on a range of engineering subjects and trace technical standards and specifications. We have produced a job-seeking guide and also have access to independent salary surveys.

Reference, Loans and Document Supply

You don’t have to visit the library to access its resources, we offer a postal loan and document supply service. We can also provide loan copies of IMechE conferences, proceedings journals and seminars from 1847. We have an Internet suite available in the Library for catalogue searching and business use. We can provide photocopies of articles from journals, magazines, seminars and conferences, by fax or post or email.

Virtual Library

The Virtual Library is a key resource for members, providing free access to engineering literature and data services.
