£500 and certificate Deadline: 23 July 2008 The Mechatronics Forum is proud to announce the 2008 Mechatronics Engineering Student of the Year Award, which has been specifically designed to help raise the profile of mechatronics design philosophy and mechatronics engineering education. The award provides a showcase for educational excellence by publicly recognising, and rewarding the exceptional achievements of both students and universities. We hope that we may look forward to your institution’s participation in this award.
We would like to ask your department to help us identify the Mechatronics Engineering Student of the Year who best demonstrates the application of the mechatronics philosophy to an engineering problem that provides an innovative and economical solution and who can present the solution professionally to our Judging Panel. By inviting the qualifying student that you feel best satisfies the above criteria to enter our Award scheme, we can ensure that high standards can be maintained for the benefit of students and universities alike. Entry will be limited to one student (or one group of students – group projects) from each degree programme.
We appreciate the demands on your department’s time and have therefore simplified the scheme to make it more focused. The competition is based around a submission of student's individual final year project report (or the group project report). The entry form is completed by the project supervisor and the student, including the project supervisor's citation. A hard copy of the student’s final year project together with the entry form should be forwarded to the Mechatronics Forum, IMechE.
Please note the deadline for receipt is 23 July 2008.Entries will be submitted to a panel of judges who will initially assess the projects against the set criteria. The judges will look for projects that demonstrate:
- application of mechatronics design philosophy to a specific engineering problem
- economically feasible solution in terms of its potential application in industry
- excellent research and development practice, and final presentation
The top three to five entrants will then be invited to the National Finals at IMechE in London in the Autumn of 2008, where each student will be asked to present their project to the Panel of Judges. The winner will be announced after the presentations.
The Mechatronics Forum was established in 1990 to promote the mechatronics philosophy among the practicing engineers and students of engineering.
Yours sincerely,
