IMechE and the Chartered Management Institute
Welcome to a new partnership between the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Chartered Management Institute. Working together we aim to help you further your engineering career by becoming a better manager and recognising your management expertise.
Research shows that most professional engineers need to develop and use their managerial skills and expertise during their career. As many as 76% of professional engineers have a significant managerial function; for 36% their main function is managerial, while for 24% their main function is technological; 40% share both functions equally. It is not surprising, therefore, that qualifying as a Chartered Engineer requires the demonstration of significant elements of management and leadership.
In order to recognise this and enable further development, IMechE, through the Management Division, is offering its members the opportunity to gain a degree-level Diploma in Management. Delivered by the training arm of the Chartered Management Institute, this will provide exemptions based on the prior learning of Chartered Engineers and enable you to gain a management qualification and progress towards becoming a Chartered Manager.
