Starley Premium Award


The Starley Premium Award (Serial 319) is funded from the Trust for Education and Research.

Trust Conditions:

The Starley Premium Fund was established in 1914 to commemorate the work of the late John Kemp Starley. The Fund raised £440. The Award is made for the best original paper dealing with "The Development of Road Locomotion" published by the Institution during the previous year, provided that the paper is judged to be of sufficient merit.

Award Conditions:

The subject matter covers the design or improvement in details of mechanically propelled road vehicles of all descriptions whether on wheels or track-laying or mechanical appliances for the construction or maintenance of roads. The Award may be made either for a paper or for a contribution or for achievement in that field. Open to members and non-members of the Institution.

Value of Award:

(No monetary value) - Certificate. Recipients of this prize can be nominated for the Crompton-Lanchester Medal (Serial 228) in competition with recipients of the Gresham Cooke Prize (Serial 208), The Clifford S Steadman Prize (Serial 222) and the Engineering Applied to Agriculture Award (Serial 303).
