The Division has over 11,000 members and ten regional centres.

Transfer for IMI members

Following the Institute of Motor Industry’s (IMI) decision to relinquish their licence to maintain and register EngTech and IEng registrations, the IMechE is offering a free transfer route to existing IMI members who need membership of a professional engineering institution.

If you have been affected by IMI’s situation, find out how to benefit from this free transfer opportunity.

Jon Hilton , Chairman Automobile Division, IMechE welcomes IMI members: "I would like to take this opportunity to extend a welcome to any engineer affected by the IMI’s decision to relinquish its professional licence."

"Professional registration as an EngTech, IEng or CEng is important to your career and continued success as an engineer. As the Institution with the fastest growing membership, and more than 11,000 members from within the automobile industry, if you decide to transfer to the IMechE you will find yourself in good company."

"Our free local events run throughout the UK. With upcoming topics like Formula One the Red Bull way, the new Aston Martin Rapide and the Bloodhound project, I’m confident you will find something of interest."

"Should you decide to join IMechE you will also find plenty of opportunities to meet like minded people and develop a range of contacts that will make a real difference to your career. You might choose to get involved with great projects such as Formula Student or our Manufacturing Excellence awards programme which is renowned throughout the industry."

"Finally, I’d like to think that you would find a warm welcome and be satisfied in a new home at the IMechE. And I encourage you to get in touch to see how we can support you through the transfer process."
