The Automobile Division works to promote and develop automotive engineering internationally and to equip engineering professionals from all sections of the industry with the highest standards of technical knowledge and commercial acumen.
The Division has over 11,000 members and ten regional centres.
Aims
The Automobile Division aims to:
- Facilitate the exchange of information and ideas
- Provide an international focus for technology transfer throughout the automotive industry
- Promote the value of professional engineering as a career
- Develop strong links with kindred associations in the UK, Europe and world-wide
- Represent the interests of the automotive industry as a whole to decision makers within Government
- Achieve wider recognition and understanding of the importance of automotive engineering in terms of its contribution to the economy and society
- Promote the multidisciplinary nature of automotive engineering
- Provide a professional home for all automotive engineers active in the industry
Activities The Automobile Division organises
lectures, seminars and conferences geared to the needs of customers with the participation of members and non-members throughout the industrial and academic sectors.
The ten
regional centres of the Automobile Division also run an active and highly successful
programme of events.
The Division actively pursues co-operation internationally with FISITA, EAEC and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).
The Journal of Automobile Engineering (Part D of the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers) serves the multidisciplinary and rapidly changing automotive industry as a forum for the publication of learned papers in research, design, manufacture, operation, servicing of components and complete vehicles, for all road and off-highway vehicles. The Journal reflects the continual development and changing needs of this diverse community by means of guidance from an international Editorial Board. The Journal is published 12 times per annum.
The Institution’s magazine ‘Automotive Engineer’ is published monthly and is widely recognised as the foremost magazine of the automotive industry.
