Our University Liaison Officers play an important role in encouraging undergraduate students to become involved in the local activities of the Institution, as well as ensuring students make the most of their membership. Does this sound like you?
To qualify as a University Liaison Officer, you will be a graduate studying at university for an engineering-based qualification.

Abbie is a ULO at Loughborough University, using her role to network with fellow students and get involved with events and departmental activities.
As a University Liaison Officer, you will:
- Promote us and our purpose within the student community
- Encourage membership and the benefits of membership for students
- Promote relevant events organised by the Young Members’ Panel
- Keep up to date with our website, student web pages and newsletters, and promote these within the university
- Facilitate communication between us, your university and fellow students
- Collect comments or suggestions from student members and feedback to us the long-term development and improvement of the offer we have to students, eg events, activities, benefits etc
- Ensure that relevant Young Member activities are accessible to local students
By volunteering for us you could:
- Network with peers – meet other engineers, share and grow your own knowledge
- Increase your engineering network and gain contacts to help grow your career
- Raise your own professional profile within the university and across the wider engineering community - most employers recognise the value volunteers add to their business and the local community
- Enhance your CV, giving you the edge in interviews
- Develop professional skills and experience eg soft skills - influencing, negotiating, presenting, communication, public speaking, chairing meetings and project management which may count towards your continuing professional development (CPD) and accreditation, by meeting competencies for professional registration
