Would you like to join major manufacturers, educators, professionals and engineering organisations to provide fun hands-on activities for youngsters that illustrate engineering and technology? Yes? Then you should consider becoming an Imagineering volunteer.
Imagineering was started more than 10 years ago by a group of engineers in the Coventry area. The organisation aims to generate future engineers by engaging young people in hands-on, fun activities.
Imagineering volunteers also run engineering clubs in schools, where students make a series of working models such as a helicopter, compass, micrometer and hydraulic arm. There are over 140 of these clubs around the country and most depend on volunteer engineers to help run them.
You will:
- Be an Institution member – such as an apprentice, through to mid-career engineers (supported by their companies) to retired
- Potentially already be an Institution Ambassador
- Have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (previously known as a CRB check)
At events you could be helping out in a wide range of ways. You might be needed on the Imagineering Clubs stand, at the entrance collecting visitor data or to assist with children's activities.
For school clubs your help would be needed to help run the club after school time during terms. Many clubs need additional volunteers to partner the existing tutor, or a pair of volunteers to get started.
You will:
- Get to take part in an enjoyable, satisfying and worthwhile endeavour
- Help foster young engineering talent
For larger events that are held occasionally, you will need to volunteer for a few hours.
For school clubs an hour a week in school plus preparation time.
