Overview

An ever-increasing number of power plants are carrying out retrofitting or rehabilitation of major items of equipment, such as steam turbines and boilers, in order to extend the life of ageing plant, as well as to increase efficiency and output, reduce emissions and improve reliability and maintainability. This work is often accompanied by major investments in emissions control equipment, e.g. particulate removal, flue gas desulphurisation, NOx reduction and mercury control systems.

A major concern when undertaking such life extension projects is to ensure that any equipment that is not retrofitted will not impose restrictions on the future operation of the plant. At the moment, there is no established methodology within the power industry for undertaking plant assessment or requalification work in this situation, although various utilities and equipment suppliers employ their own approaches.

The objective of this one-day seminar is to bring together those with an interest in this field to discuss issues associated with life extension of power plant equipment.
