2 day Seminar
18 March 2008 - 19 March 2008

Institution of Mechanical Engineers

SW1H 9JJ

Aimed at engineers, scientists and surgeons, this seminar will provide a state-of-the-art update on the current status of robotic surgery in the UK, Europe, USA and in China with keynote speeches from leading international experts in robotic surgery.

The seminar provides views from academics, engineers and surgeons focussing on keyhole surgery, orthopaedic surgery and evolutionary surgical robots. The challenges of sensory guided surgical robots, manipulation and gripping issues particularly in suturing will be presented and discussed.

The seminar will provide substantial debate on obstacles and challenges and the future direction of robotic surgery and provide a platform for wider discussions and multidisciplinary collaboration between engineers and surgeons.

The seminar will take place on Tuesday 18 March 2008 and a further half day on Wednesday 19 March for a live transmission from Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Theatre.

The following topics will be explored:
• Current status of robotic surgery in Europe and the world
• Heart surgery
