This two-day conference will follow up on the success of the first IMechE event on this topic run in London in April 2001.
Shoulder, elbow, hand and wrist surgery is a growth industry. The numbers of joint replacements and soft-tissue surgical procedures have increased dramatically over the past decade. With an increasing and ageing population this is only likely to continue.
Interaction between engineers and surgeons is vital, to enhance both surgical execution and quality of the devices implanted.
This conference will bring together key workers in shoulder research - from industry, academia and clinical practice, both UK and international - to provide a forum to discuss the future development of devices and technologies for upper limb surgery.
The two-day event will also highlight key new research and encourage collaborations between major contributors to further the work in this important field.
Attending will help you • Grasp the current key issues in Upper Limb Surgery • Appreciate the impact of engineering – where and how it makes a difference • Contribute to setting the agenda for future work in the area • Find collaborators for future projects • Develop your knowledge of soft tissue surgery (including device implantation and grafts) • Learn about arthroplasty for the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand • Improve imaging, modelling and implant design • Know more about surgical tools (including drill guides, jigs, and reamers) • Present to an informed, critical audience • Meet greet and network with key players, both national and international
