YOUNG MEMBER OF THE YEAR AWARDS
Do you know a Young Member who volunteers in their spare time for the Institution or who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the engineering profession?
Applications for our Young Member of the Year awards for 2023 open 9 June 2023.
This year the Young Members Board (YMB) will be awarding three individual awards for outstanding contribution in the following categories:
Who can apply
Any Young Member can be nominated or may self-nominate for one or several of the awards and everyone who applies in any category will automatically be considered for the Young Member Visionary Award.
All entrants must be Young Members of the Institution. A Young Member is any Affiliate, Associate or Member who has achieved professional registration within the last ten years.

Young Member Visionary
The Young Member Visionary Award is presented to a Member whose application demonstrates all-round excellence both in engineering and in volunteering.
All entries for IMechE Volunteer of the Year and Developing Engineer of the Year will be considered for this award, overall Young Member of the Year - the Young Member Visionary.
The Institution’s Young Member Visionary will be given the opportunity to engage closely with the Young Members Board over the year. The winner will receive a certificate and plaque. The Young Member Visionary will also receive:
- A place at a management training conference near to the locality of the winner
- Either two video conferencing calls with the President or, if applicable, one meeting with the President and one attendance at a presentational visit near to the locality of the winner.
IMechE Volunteer of the Year
Much of what the IMechE does wouldn’t be possible or just wouldn’t happen without the support of committed and enthusiastic volunteers. This Award looks to recognise the efforts of volunteers who have made a significant contribution, usually over a number of years, towards sustaining and developing all the different things that the IMechE does.
Developing Engineer of the Year
This Award is targeted at Young Members who have already completed engineering qualifications, i.e. those who have completed university or finished their apprenticeships and are now high achievers and great role models in a professional working context in industry.
