Mechanical Engineering Scholarships and Awards for Postgraduates

The Institution is committed to investing in the future of young engineers in order to help them develop their careers.

A wide range of scholarships, awards and grants are available to support the educational and development needs of today’s graduates.

The Postgraduate Fund offers assistance to graduates who wish to undertake programmes of postgraduate study or research. It also provides support for members embarking on world-wide projects addressing Third World and environmental issues.

Masters scholarships

A range of scholarships support a programme of study in mechanical engineering leading to a masters degree.

Postgraduate masters scholarship

A scholarship can offer you support to help you gain an IMechE accredited masters degree for the purpose of obtaining the academic requirements for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng)  if you have graduated with an IMechE accredited bachelor degree.  Up to £6,500, value of scholarship is determined by the Awards Committee.

This award enables you to pursue advanced postgraduate studies or programmes of research.
Applications accepted throughout the year.

Research scholarships

A number of postgraduate research scholarships are on offer to support your mechanical engineering study programme leading to a doctorate.

Postgraduate research scholarship

Our postgraduate research scholarships can support you whilst you study for a doctorate.  Up to £6,500 p.a., value of scholarship is determined by the Awards Committee.

Whitworth senior scholarship (for research PhD or EngD)

These senior scholarship awards offer enhanced level of financial reward for postgraduate research: £22,500 over 3 years.
