Business Development Manager
Eastern and East Midlands
Lara Mallett has been the Business Development Manager for the East Midlands Region since 2005, and is based in Cambridge. Acting as the Institution’s primary link with organisations in industry and academia, her role is to develop and support the engineering community whilst maintaining strong links with a network of key contacts.
In addition, Lara also provides strategic guidance to the active members in her regions via the regional committees, and is always keen to be involved in the launch of new products, or moving into new markets.
Lara has a BSc, is a Chartered Marketeer and a French speaker; she has lived in France, Australia and Hong Kong. She previously worked for Mott MacDonald Ltd, Domino Printing Sciences, as well as smaller firms. She has had product and sector managerial roles for international markets for manufacturing, consultant engineering firms and online information services, and worked in technical sales providing complete industrial printing solutions for manufacturing sites both in the UK and France.
She really enjoys visiting companies and regards it as a great privilege to see amazing engineering achievements. Highlights include seeing the spent fuel from a nuclear reactor, visiting offshore windfarms and being on the high cranes moving containers around the UK’s largest container port.
With a father who is a Chartered Engineer and a beekeeper, she has a keen interest in both of these. When not working she enjoys her garden and is an avid birdwatcher. She enjoys backpacking internationally – countryside, rather than city breaks. She loves the radio especially BBC Worldservice and Radio 4 Extra.
