Career Potential image

Your future starts here

As an Apprentice, you will already have an insight into how interesting, challenging and rewarding engineering can be. At the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), we want our members to reach their full potential, learn as much as they can about the engineering industry at large, and further their careers for maximum success.

We know that the apprentices of today will be the professionals of tomorrow, and we are here to support you turn your engineering apprenticeship into an engineering career.

Get recognition and get ahead of the crowd

Get recognition and get ahead of the crowdDid you know that at the end of your advanced or modern engineering apprenticeship, you can apply for professional registration with the IMechE? Professional registration means that we’ll assess the skills you’ve gained on your course and throughout your work experience, and can award you the professional title Engineering Technician (EngTech).

Taking your career even further

Taking your career even furtherYou may not realise it, but upon completion of an advanced apprenticeship, you will have what it takes to study an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at university. We know that for most people, the transition from work to study can be challenging. And because the IMechE is committed to supporting the development of engineers, we offer scholarships of £4,500 each year (for the duration of your university studies) to provide financial support to apprentices who want to go to university. To find out more visit our Education Scholarships and Awards section

There are many routes to progressing your career that don’t involve going to University but do involve getting the skills that you learn on the job recognised and rewarded. Our Routes into Engineering map shows some of the popular routes that professionals in the engineering world can take.
