Key Theme Representative Roles

The Institution has a clear understanding of the challenges and opportunities ahead, along with a vision for the future. We're communicating this through our Key Themes, which reflect the issues most relevant to society and our member: Energy, Environment, Transport, Manufacturing, Education and Engineering in Society. More information about the institutions key themes can be found via the following link.

As the Young Member’s Board (YMB) rep for one of the key themes, you should be familiar with the individual theme you are representing (e.g. either by working in the industry or through having a keen interest). It would be expected for you to engage the relevant theme manager (HQ can help with this), by introducing yourself and initiating an on-going dialogue. By doing so, you should ensure that you are kept up to date with the IMechE’ s key theme reports (with the potential for involvement as appropriate) and be in a good position to contact the division and/or group(s) that coincides with your theme. It would also be expected for you to be on the lookout for theme content to contribute to the YMB social media streams.

The key theme reps will collectively be charged with the ownership of the YMB competition (similar to the 2011 'Population Challenge' competition); planning, developing & ultimately delivering a theme related competition.
